[TITLE]My Installation Works
Today's lecture was very interesting because we can seldom listen to the explanation of arts from the artist who made them. I usually think it is difficult to understand fine arts, but I'll try to imagine what the artist wants to convey to viewers from now on. The process of painting the wall astonished me. I thought it was not that difficult to paint the wall with just one color, but I learned it needs delicate work by many people.

Until now, I have not been interested in art because I can't understand its value and meaning. But today, I watched some arts and I was very happy. I liked "white cube" the best because it has no decorations, and only white relaxed me. I want to go to an art gallery when I am tired.

[TITLE]Thoughts on Todayfs Speech
Actually I'm not so much interested in arts, but today seeing her many works, I can see not only the objects but also the process of making art and the materials. I found it very exciting and complicated. Especially I was interested in the fact that many people from various countries came and made one work together. I think it is a very difficult thing, but it is also very exciting. At the beginning of the speech, knowing that her arts are exhibited in Utsukushigahara Kougen, I was surprised because Ifm from Nagano and I have been there once.

I was really impressed with Ms. Terauchi's speech and work. I often think that contemporary arts are difficult to understand, but after her speech, I'm relieved because Ms.Terauchi said that she didn't try to understand them: "Just feel free." I was really happy because I was able to know a different point of view through her speech and photos of her work.

I think there are some artists who are successful and hold their own exhibitions abroad. However, Japanese mass media don't feature them. Therefore, today's lecture was very interesting for me because I could learn what I can't learn in daily life. Ms. Yoko Terauchi said she kept her original idea inside her all the time. I feel that point is the difference from people who are not artists. It is very difficult to live having a fundamental aim. However, I will try to live a life to the full with a belief that composes myself.

I have been wondering why there are so many works of contemporary art because I didnft think they made any sense. And I have thought contemporary artists create works just instinctively without any deep feelings. However, when I saw the making process of Ms. Terauchi's big circle in a room, I realized that I was wrong. I realized that artists think in great detail and create works by paying great attention. So, I'll watch contemporary art thinking of the artist's hardship from now on.

Today, I was very surprised at and impressed with Ms. Terauchi's works. The things such as paper and telephone cables that we are familiar with can be turned into unexpected forms. Each of her works seemed to have a soul. I don't think she was able to make such a nice work from the very beginning. Her long effort, study and experience in various countries brought nice works to her. I felt it was great to seek something we were interested in.

I had played the piano between the age of three and seventeen, so I have a lot of interest in artistic circles. Having played the piano for many years and rendered many composer's works, I know that making a work of art is very difficult. Today, listening to Ms. Terauchi's speech, I also felt the same thing. Ifm sorry I couldnft understand her workfs good points very much because the level was too high for me. But I can understand how hard she completed it and how much she enjoyed, which I think is very important when we create some works.

[TITLE]Artist Talk
Since I went to the Tate Modern in London, I have been interested in contemporary art. So, Ifm very glad to listen to her speech. Her works are so creative that Ifm impressed by them. Especially, I like the works made with one large paper in red and blue. Her words gArt is in the hearts of a peopleh also impressed me because I think thatfs certainly right. As she enjoys her job, I feel her face and works are bright! I think it's so nice!!

[TITLE]Artist Talk
I was very impressed by her speech, art and way of thinking. I've never thought of things like her in my life. She said things we see are true but we just see parts of the world. I really agree with her. We shouldn't think things we see are whole. I think itfs important to see things from many different sides.

I enjoyed seeing all of her works a lot! I've been wondeing what artists usually think about, and it is very interesting for me to think about it. Of course I like her works but not only that, I'm curious about herself or her daily life. I also like visiting art museums, though I don't know anything about art, so I want to know how artists like Ms. Yoko Terauchi feel everyday, which have a great influence on their works. I'll be questioning about them from now on, too. I want to see as many works as I can and feel a lot of invisible things.

Until now, I thought I was not interested in arts. But when she said "I think art is the way to convey my feelings," (I couldn't remember exactly, but something like this) I realized I like art!! I love dance, because I can express my feelings with movement. Now I think dance is also a kind of art, and maybe everyone has their own art. I enjoyed today's speech.

She said, "Are is not only beautifulness, but also meaning." Don't be afaraid of making something." (I didn't remember her exact words.) I was really impressed with such words. I like making something too, but I always feel art should be beautiful. So sometimes I gave it up because of its ugliness. Today I realized it doesn't need to be beautiful. I think I can enjoy making something from my heart. But Whistler whom I like the most, thought that the art should be beautiful and have no meanings. I thought she and Whistler are opposite.

Until today, I avoided art because I thought that art is very difficult, I cannnot understand flavers of art. But I found the interests of art. I thought that I need not understand techniques or other special things. All I have to do is to feel "Oh! this is very beautiful!", "This is very big!", "This is great!" I can enjoy art only to look at it.

I was really taken with a work of art of one room. First, the room has one window, and its wall is painted in white. The next photo is one of the rooms which has no window (the window is hidden with papers), its wall is colored yellow. The next photo is the room which has no window, its wall is colored black. And the light coming through a narrow gap of the black room looks whiter than the white room and yellow room. I'm surprised at that fact. I think impressions like this inspire human life.

Art is a little too deep for me. To tell the truth, I have never been to an art gallerry. And art was a poor subject when I was in junior high. I have to refine my sensitivity. Today, the work that changes the angle, and shows a different expression (using large red and blue paper) strikes my fancy. And I was surprised at a large number of kinds of work. I really enjoyed seeing the works. I would like to visit an art gallery with my friend.
