ドイツ 2年[TITLE]I'm also interested in various English accents and dialects. I'd been taught English by an Australian from age 9 to 17. I like Australian accents, but there were some differences from what I had studied at school. I met a guy from Scotland this summer and couldn’t catch his English. Many people say that if you can speak English you can communicate with almost everyone on earth; however, I noticed it was difficult even between native English speakers.
フランス 2年[TITLE]I thought that people in London spoke only Queen’s English to date, so I was very surprised that there were various kinds of English in London! I want to know different accents and intonation. And I’m interested in Cockney accent. I want to know it in detail.
スペイン 1年[TITLE]I thought people who speak English speak it mostly in the same way. But from Mr. Sasaki's lecture, I learned English has so many accents like Japanese "namari" or "hougen." Also in Japan, sometimes Tokyo residents can't communicate with people in Okinawa very well. And I was surprised at the history of some local language being prohibited. I think various kinds of "English" should be respected and last in the future. In Spanish, by the way, "l" and "ll" have different pronunciations.
英文 4年[TITLE]The Most Important ThingI thought that English skill has to be perfect when you study, work, and live in a foreign country. But today, I found the most important thing is not to hesitate to talk. In the world, lots of people are studying and using English and there are many accents. Japanese English can be considered as one of the accents. In the next class, I want to raise my hand and ask a question about what I think.
英米 4年[TITLE]The Most Important ThingI really enjoyed the talk about Mr. Sasaki’s life in Britain. It was fascinating to me and made me want to go there. I’ve been to Vancouver and experienced the same thing as him. I remember there were so many people speaking various kinds of English accents. At first, I couldn’t even communicate with my host family who were originally from the Philippines and had a difficult time. But I got used to it little by little, and now I think various English accents are so interesting. We should respect each other!
ドイツ 3年[TITLE]I'm glad to hear today's presentation. I'm a German major. But I went to Canada two years ago, when I was in the second year. I also had a problem with the luggage at the airport. I lost my luggage too. So I can understand the professor's feeling. My situation was more terrible. I lost my airplane in America. I was really upset. So I'll just say that I remenber my good experience. I went to Germany for six months this year. I learned many things there. It was my most precious memory in my life. To study abroad is very important so as to know the various culture, I think.
フランス 1年[TITLE]Non-English SpeakerI admired his action. I mean to say, though he is not an English speaker, he made a speach for about an hour. Unfortunately, I have no chance to speak English in Japan. So, I felt I should use English regularly and deliberately. And there is another thing I felt. he spoke about a prohibition of the Welsh. Before I heard of a story like that. That is, the Japanese government forced Koreans to speak Japanese. I feel it is a very sad thing. I hope we never repeat that.
フランス 1年[TITLE]Wales for Japan is "Ainu" !?Listening to Professor Sasaki's speech and seeing some pictures, one thing makes me very sad. That is Wales. In the picture, a Welsh girl undergoes punishment because of using the Welsh language. I think Britain's Welsh is similar to Japanese "Ainu." In Japan, many people are discriminating against Ainu. It's not good!! It is true that their language is different from our "Japanese." But I think it is important to understand each culture. And in Britain people should understand different culture and thinking.
英米 1年[TITLE]My experience was about various kinds of English in New Zealand. As I heard Mr.Sasaki's speech, I was reminded of my experience of accent trouble. There are so many immigrants in NZ. So I found it so hard to understand the Indian accent and Chinese accents. I think that's the same in London. And, my host family had lots of accents. The host father had an AUS accent. My host mother had a native NZ accent. During my stay in NZ, I realized English is not just one, it chages and English is now becoming the world-wide language. So I want to try hard to understand each accent.
英米 2年[TITLE]In this summer vacation, I went to the UK. I stayed in Brighton for 4 weeks and in London for 5 days. Before I went there, I felt a great deal of fear. However, since I came back to Japan, I have felt I want to live in the UK!! I've come to like the UK so much!! Now, I want to study English harder and improve my pronunciation. Besides, it's very interesting for me to study politics, economics, and culture.
フランス 4年[TITLE]Language TroubleUntil I listened to Mr Sasaki’s speech, I didn’t know there are so many English accents in Britain. But after his speech, my experience came up from my memory. When I was in 1st year, I went to Australia for three weeks to study English. In language school, teachers spoke very clear English and I understood easily, but in a hamburger shop, I couldn’t understand a clerk’s English. It was amazing but very interesting for me. From his speech and my experience, I realized that to touch a real life is a very important thing.
英文 2年[TITLE]Pronunciation is InterestingThe most surprising and interesting things in his speech were his language troubles in the PRO [Public Records Office]. When I heard his speech, I thought that "cold" was "cow" and "today" was "to die".Therefore, I couldn't understand that sentence. Until now, I haven’t thought pronunciation was so important, but today I realized it is very important! Also, it is very interesting.
英米 1年[TITLE]The pronunciation of "Ll"I think the pronunciation of "Ll" is very difficult to hear. I don't know about Wales well, but listening to your story, I felt Wales has its own cultures. And different pronunciations are very interesting for me, such as "today" and "stay". I thought British people are the same, but I understood the differences well today. Thank you very much.
中国 1年[TITLE]I'm happy to listen to the president of Aichi Prefectural University. I have studied English desperately since I decided to become good at speaking English so that I can use English perfectly in business. The main way I study English is reading textbooks and listening to CDs. This time, I realized it isn’t enough. I feel I should go to where languages I want to speak are spoken. British rows of houses along a street are so beautiful. I want to go to England.
フランス 3年[TITLE]My Language Experience in BritainThank you for your speech! I understood that you really like Britain in spite of many problems. To study abroad is such a nice experience for us, I think. I went to Canada to study English. That was only a one-month stay, but I remembered my time in Canada today. My host family was not Canadian, they were Polish, so their pronunciation was a little bit different from the English I knew. And in Canada, there were so many immigrants. Each of them speaks English, but there were many differences. But I realized that it’s natural and that I also can speak Japanese-English! Then, thank you for your words,"Don't hesitate to speak!"
