I’m poor at speaking English. I often depend on a dictionary in writing and speaking English. Mr. Meyer, at first, relied on an e-dictionary. Gradually, he can speak English and communicate with people.
I think it is very important to communicate with people in English without being afraid of mistakes. When I listened to his speech, I wanted to speak English fluently like him. Even if he isn't a native English speaker, he can speak English fluently. I respect his effort.

I was surprised to know that he started studying English when he was eleven years old. It's because I had thought French people don't care to study English until I heard this story. I think I have to study hard and experience many things to break the stereotypes in my mind.

I was really pleased to hear his talk. I went to England to study English and I was there for 9 months. But before I left Japan, I didn't study English hard. After I arrived there I faced thousands of difficulties. And I was in language school so there were lots of non-native English learners. The most difficult thing in understanding what other students were saying was their accent. As he told us, I could get used to their English, and my English was terrible, but I really tried to explain what I wanted to tell. I also think we shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes. We're friends so the listener tries to understand what the speaker tries to say. And I'm also thinking how we can brush up our speaking skill in Japan. I hope I can find some friends who can speak English and communicate a lot of things about Japan or other cultures. Today was really an enjoyable day.

Today was my first day in this class and I could say it was a wonderful opportunity to listen to a presentation of a Toyota manager. I myself am looking for a job right now and with I could be in an office with people from a variety of countries, to meet and get to know them. And I understood very well about TOEIC just being half. I have a good score on it, but I still have so much trouble speaking!

I was so interested in his speech because I also want to work in an international company like Toyota. I think English is so important as a way to communicate with colleagues there. I understood the difference of English pronunciation from different countries. I want to study more about it. I also think it is important for us to try to communicate our opinions clearly. So I’ll try it.

[Impressive Words from Mr. Meyer ]
I was motivated by Mr. Meyer to speak English more. I really like the phrase “Making some mistakes is much better than not speaking English.” I remembered my host mother because she said the same things before. Now, I started to think I would like to make many mistakes because that help my English to improve. I would like to speak English to people from all over the world (not only native English speakers) because English is a worldwide language.

I’m interested in language education in France. In Japan, junior high school and high school students learn one foreign language; French students, however, learn two foreign languages at the same time. There is an advantage in doing so because they can learn (or memorize) words by connecting these languages. I wonder which is a more effective way.

Toyota Motors is one of the most famous companies, so I really envy Mr. Meyer. Sometimes I’m confused because I don’t know what to say or how I can say something in English. So, I can’t express my feelings. However, from today’s speech, I became a little bit confident in my English because he said it was important to communicate and try to make one’s message clear. Before I heard his story, I’d thought most of the Europeans had no trouble in learning English; but actually, many non-native English people have the same problem.

Today, I found many non-native English speakers had accents. I thought Italians spoke English like singing a song; Spanish accent had characteristic rhythm. These were very interesting for me! Sometimes I hesitate to speak English because of my Japanese accent. But, Mr. Meyer said, “Nobody speaks perfectly, but everyone speaks English” or “You don ’t have to learn ‘correct’ English to be able to speak it.” I was relieved to hear that, so I’ll try to speak English more! Thank you for your speech.

I heard that Toyota Motors was difficult to enter. One of the reasons is the level of English. I was very surprised that Mr.Meyer spoke English fluently. I feel that I must study English harder. Also, he seemed to have been to various countries. I think I want to go to many countries too! If I can, I want to be a university student abroad. For the time being, I try to study English and speak English with my friends.

At first, I'm surprised by the French man! I imaged that French only speak French, but Mr.Mayer spoke English fluently. So I felt emotions. Next, he said to us "I made many many mistakes." and he owed what he is today to that. I think it's so important for me to improve English and my French speaking skill. (Now I learn French.) Last, Mr.Benjamin Mayer was very cool! His speech was really great. But sometimes I didn't catch his English...So I must make an effort. Thank you for your speech!

Until 1 year ago, I was hesitating to speak English because I care about making mistakes so much. I was afraid of not making myself understood. But I went to Toronto and stayed there for a year. There, I met so many people from many different countries. They spoke English with their own accent without any hesitation. It made me realize that it's not a big deal to make mistakes. As you said, we don't need to speak perfectly as native speakers do. All I have to do is just making my messages clear. I'll keep those words in my mind from now on.

My answers to the listning questions are completely wrong. So I lost my confidence of listening to English because of this class. But simultaneously I realized that I must study hard and be aggressive with my English. I lost my confidence but in order ways this calss is a very nice stimulation for me to think in "English."

Today I knew the points when I learn English from his language learning style. I was surprised to hear that he went abroad wiyhout understanding English enough. But he could improve English skills. And when I talk to foreigners in English, I become very nervous because I am afraid of making mistakes, so I will always remenber his words. "The point is not perfect grammar, but making your massage clear!"

As the same as today's speaker, I have also felt studying a foreign language only by using a book or only at school is not enough. Listening to a working person's real voice, I really feel that to have communication is very important and so is having a clear message or opinion. But I'm not good at communication. So I want to be better at communication!
