I admired Mr. Wray's lecture. He said that he had hated Japan when he was young. But, since he met a Japanese-American teacher, he has loved Japan. I think his teacher was such a wonderful man. So, I want to be a person who can change the image of Japan for foreigners who hate Japan.

I learned that we could come to like foreign countries by understanding them well. I think most of the wars break out because of our misunderstanding. To understand something well, I think it's important to be interested in it.

Professor Wray's talk was very passionate and funny, so I enjoyed it very much. He talked about how his feelings for Japan had changed from hate to love. I felt it was important to get involved with people directly. There's a proverb: "A picture is worth a thousand words." I want to rephrase it this way: "One experience is even worthier than a picture." I want to try many things in my life.

[TITLE] Real Voice
Today's speaker was a foreigner and talked about his "understanding and love of Japan" through his experience. I felt that I could hear the real voice of people from overseas and learn how people developed the idea of Japan. The interesting phrase I heard during the lecture was a "popular war." I was shocked to know that there was a war that everyone welcomed. That kind of phrase would not have been heard if I were not here today. I enjoyed the lecture very much and had a wonderful time.

To get rid of my prejudices is important. Experience reality and think it over once more. These are my impression of today's talk. First of all I need to notice my bias. I should always have a doubt about my common sense. Experience reality is the most important thing. To experience reality I want to be more active.

By the way, what is the difference between state legislature and council?

I think Professor Wray has many good characteristics as a teacher. In my eyes, he tries to speak something interesting for students and, above all, to be together with students. My belief is that it is most important for all the teachers to try to be with students. If teachers do so, students will be interested in them. The way Professor Wray speaks makes students more spontaneous. This is a great quality as a teacher. Then, there is one thing I want to ask him: "What is the most important thing as a university student?"

[TITLE] From Ignorance and Hate to Understanding and Love of Japan
I was happy when I heard that Mr. Harry loves Japan. It is a very pleasing thing for me. About 60 years ago, Japanese went to war and they killed many foreigners. But now, many people need Japanese. I hope that foreigners and Japanese keep having a good relationship. However, there are hostile relations between North Korea and Japan. Between China and Japan, too. So I want to study about these countries and understand people who live there. Ignorance is dangerous!

[TITLE] From Ignorance and Hate to Understanding and Love of Japan
If you are ignorant about something, sometimes it works good. For instance, if you didn't know about Japanese people, you might be curious about them and want to talk with them. However, if you have misunderstanding of Japanese people, you might hate them all in your life and never want to talk with them. It think misunderstanding is very dangerous. But I think to know whether my understanding is correct or not is sometimes difficult. If you have prejudice, it will be difficult to realize the reality.

This lecture was very interesting for me. I think no wonder American and Japanese hated each other because we were opponents. But I think we hated from misunderstanding. So, young people must learn history on each ground.

I was amazed that he didn't like Sushi at first. I will remember his word, "The problem is not stomach, but brain."

[TITLE] In order to Have Object View
His lecture was very interesting, because he talked about Japanese history from the point of view of an American. Until now, I have little chance to learn Japanese history from the point of view of foreigners. So, it was a good lesson to me, and I learn that it is important to have opportunities like this lecture in order to have an objective view.

I learn it is important to take everything with a broad mind, but I can't say I don't have a prejudice against Korean and Chinese because my grandfather experienced World War II and my grandparents and parents criticize them in conversations. I think I have to learn more Asian history to learn what Japanese did against them and take their traditions and what they think about Japanese. And I want to be friendly with them by traveling or watching their movies.

[TITLE] When I Think After His Speech
I agree with his idea that if we think something is bad, it will become bad for us but if we think something is good then it will become good. His Sushi experience is quite similar to my experience in England. There was an Arabic guy whom I hated in the classroom. But the more I communicated and talked to him, the more I liked him.

I think how we can get a good relation with someone depends on how much we accepted and understand them.

I'm so glad that we had Prof. Harry's lecture today. I hope we could have more time so that we could listen to his experiences in Japan and his ideas about Japanese culture or Japanese people.

As I'm going to Canada from next April, I'd like to know how Canadian people think about Japan/Japanese, learn what different sense we have about our culture, and wish that I could give them a good image of Japan!!

[TITLE] Each Country’s Common Senses
He was full of vitality! I enjoyed his speech. At first, I was surprised that he said "I hated Japan!" But I understood the reasons. History, especially war, gives us impacts of each of the countries. Sometimes bad impacts. What was particularly striking was that he said "Japanese common sense is not Americans common sense". When in Rome, do as the Romans do!!

[TITLE] From Ignorance and Hate to Understanding and Love of Japan
My grandfather hated Americans in the old days because he had gone out as a soldier and he had fought with the American army during the World War II. But a few years ago, an American student came to Japan to study and he stayed in my grandfather's house. My grandfather has become very friendly to Americans since then. It's important to communicate with people from another country.

[TITLE] From Ignorance and Hate to Understanding and Love of Japan
Today's speaker's speech was very powerful and active, so I was impressed by his lecture, especially his speech about Japanese culture which he was surprised at. I didn't know that Americans have strong justice. We have less justice than Americans. But I hate American's way, especially President George W. Bushs. They killed many innocent people. And the Japanese Army cooperated with American Army, so I hate the Japanese government too, even if they didn't use weapons and didn't kill people.

He said that he can learn Japanese culture every day and he can experience the great culture. I don't know real Japanese culture very much. I think that we can learn about our own culture a lot, when we get to know about other cultures.
