Thank you for the amazing presentation. I could learn a lot of things about AI through her presentation. I agree that it is time to move beyond the information age toward Society 5.0. We live in an information society, so protecting privacy has been regarded as a vital problem in the world, but there are many ways to protect our privacy such as encrypting customer information. Therefore, I think that we can move to a higher age with big data because of technological advances. Also, as AI advances more dramatically, I become anxious about whether AI can steal our jobs. However, there is weak AI, which can do the same task, and teaching cannot be replaced with AI perfectly because it requires human skills. Moreover, there are many jobs that require human skills such as teachers, nurses, and doctors. Therefore, I think that it is possible for human beings to coexist with AI in the future.

Today’s topic was also a topic which is often talked about recently and it was a really interesting one for me. I learned today that AI is used in so many products, more than I had imagined and it is necessary for our daily lives in modern society. I was surprised to know that to use AI, we need to input a large amount of data. Although AI is really useful, I heard some news that made me anxious, for instance some countries are using AI for weapons and there are possibilities that AI could take over human jobs. I want to pay close attention to the future trends of this topic.

Before I listened to today’s presentation, I had not been familiar with this field. I did not know that there are different types of AI; Narrow AI and Artificial General Intelligence, also known as weak AI and strong AI. For me, AI is a kind of scary thing despite some of its conveniences. Specifically, I am afraid of privacy issues. The more systems involving AI, the more I feel like we are being monitored. Also, as mentioned in today’s lesson, AI might take our work. I am studying to be an English teacher, but the job might be replaced by AI. Now I am confused because I know AI is so convenient for us and I actually use some devices involving AI, but considering our future, I worry about bad effects from AI.

Thank you very much for your time today. Although I major in English, AI and computer science have always been an area of my curiosity and this presentation has been the most informative and easy to understand presentation on AI I have ever had the chance to hear on the topic so far. I recall the first time I got to see AI in action, it was in a TV drama my father showed me when I was a child called “Knight rider”. Long story short, it featured a car which was a super advanced computer while being able to learn all kinds of things such as human emotions just as people do, and even do 3D printing. At the time I watched this show, there were no smartphones or 3D printers available or if they were, they were too expensive for anyone to afford, thus, it had a massive impact on my mindset. Considering this factor, it is impressive to think how much technology has progressed so far and how much things we once thought would be impossible such as having a smartphone or laptop for all individuals has become a reality. However, at the same time, I wonder if this evolution will continue to happen and I am concerned about what side-effects they might bring to human society (unemployment, laziness brought in by the over-usage of AI etc.)

This lecture the speaker spoke about a topic that is often dealt with in today's society, AI. Artificial intelligence can make our lives better. For example, it can help us with household chores, do calculations and translate for us. As artificial intelligence develops, our lives are enriched. But on the other hand, it also raises the issue of privacy. Our personal information can be stolen and misused. We have to think not only about the benefits of artificial intelligence, but also about the dangers it brings. In addition, I felt hopeful about e-learning systems that the speaker discussed. If this system becomes widespread, our system of education will change dramatically. The format in which we go to school to receive our education may also change.

Today’s guest speaker gave a presentation about education in the age of artificial intelligence. Recently I studied society 5.0 via a magazine and online seminars, but her lecture was informative and insightful. There are several definitions of AI, so it isn’t easy to understand what it is. The speaker taught us NAI and GAI, and I thought it is just like human beings with characteristics individually. A little while ago, I saw a self-driving bus moving, which was carrying some older people. I was speechless with emotion, imagining the day will come that everyone lives happily, conveniently, and more freely. However, the guest speaker reminded me of the other aspect hidden at a great age. I learned the danger of job losses, monitoring, or stealing personal data. After the class, the receptacle and the blueberry muffin’s cross-section looked like a face, and just looking at it made me shiver. To give more data makes our lives better, but we have to think carefully about whether we should provide information or not. So, we have to protect ourselves at least. Through her speech, I got a message that nobody knows the future, and if so, to think about the future positively would be a wise strategy.

When I was in the second grade of high school, I took part in Robo Cup Nagoya Japan Competitions as a volunteer. The reason why I applied to be a volunteer was just that I wanted lots of chances to talk with foreign people. To be honest, at first I was not interested in robots, and in that kind of technology at all. However, the robots, participants and spectators I saw in the competitions made my feelings change. All the robots were not moved by controllers, but moving by themselves. Seeing that sight and advanced technology, I found it obvious that robots and human beings will naturally live together in the future. In recent years, the aging society is one of the most serious problems around the world. That is to say, the number of people who need care will increase while that of people who are physically strong enough to take care of someone will decrease. In those circumstances, nursing robots may become our savior. In my opinion, the technology of Al including robots will be improved day by day because human beings need them. I’m really looking forward to the future with Al.

Thank you for your wonderful presentation, Mehrasa sensei. Although I am not a member of faculty of informatics, I do like listening to stories about AI. Thus, your lecture was very interesting for me. Speaking of first topic, Expectation vs Reality, it was a little surprising. Before the lecture, I thought that AI is like a very intelligent machine that can be competitive with humans such as a chess machine, and the day when we could have such things would be far away. However, it is not completely true. There are so many weak AIs that are already used in the world! I am delighted to be able to gain more insight about AI. Speaking of the third topic, it was also informative. For me, one of the young people who were born in this information era, the problem about robots and work is one of the biggest concerns on the future. I sometimes see articles which say, “Robots and AI may deprive people in the future of jobs”. Every time I read them, I feel anxious. My future dream is to become a translator but translating machines have developed greatly recently. She said AI would not replace teachers, but that may not apply to translators. During the Q&A time, she told us that creativity is the strength toward the society 5.0. Thankfully, her words made me realize that developing strong and unique skills is essential for me. I would like to try hard and differentiate me from others by developing unparalleled attainments.

I had thought that AI can take humans’ jobs or AI can control humans, so I was concerned about these problems and not positive about AI technology. However, Mehrasa’s presentation made my thoughts toward AI change. I had learned that AI can contribute to solving the problems within our society. So, I researched some examples of the application of AI. According to an article from the EU, AI help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. For example, about SDGs 13 “Climate Action”. AI can contribute to combat climate change by three ways. First, AI will provide better climate predictions for us. This push builds on the work already done by climate informatics, a discipline created in 2011. Climate informatics covers a range of topics. For instance, we can predict weather on a hyper-local level by using large-scale models or reconstructing past climate conditions by using data collected from things like ice cores. Better predictions can help officials make informed climate policy, allow governments to prepare for change, and potentially uncover areas that could reverse some effects of climate change. Second, we will be able to be shown the effects of extreme weather. AI can simulate what homes are likely to look like after being damaged by rising sea levels or by storms. We tend to be hard to believe that climate change is real, but we will understand what happen and do some actions to prevent from changing more than now by using these simulations. Third, AI can measure where carbon is coming from. It makes officials create fines on emissions of CO2 from pinpoint those responsible for it. For these reasons, I hope that AI will develop than now and contribute to solve the Earth.

Technology is a topic that has been the center of everyone’s attention for many years. More and more devices are being released each day, and there’s a specific technology that is winning everyone’s attention: artificial intelligence (AI). In today’s class we heard Mehrasa Alizadeh talking about artificial intelligence, how we have moved towards it, and how it could develop in the future. A.I. is the simulation of natural intelligence in machines (learning, problem-solving, achieving the best outcome). Because it is not natural intelligence, they call it artificial intelligence. It is normal to think about robots when we hear about AI, but actually there are a lot of things around us that use an AI system. There are two types of AI: Narrow Artificial Intelligence (Weak AI), and Artificial General Intelligence. The first one performs specific tasks, ex: Google search, image recognition software, personal assistants. The second one is also known as Strong AI. They are machines with human-level intelligence that can be applied to any task. It is often seen in dystopian science fiction, but it is not yet been achieved by humanity. We advanced from a 1.0 society all the way to the 4.0, which is our information society. Society 5.0 that functions with all the data that has been collected through the years, is where we want to advance to, but it is still a long way to get there. New technologies are being developed little by little. Dr. Alizadeh mentioned that she and her team are working on two new technologies that could help teachers monitor students while teaching them. These technologies include facial recognition, heart-rate monitoring, and even drowsiness. Artificial intelligence is a really interesting topic. I’ve always been interested in that field of technology and I really want to see where are going to be in 10 years, and how far technology will advance by then.
