First, as I said in my question, I was surprised by how international Niseko is! Many foreign staffs, many foreign visitors… With a large mountain and many restaurants and spas, Niseko is really like famous sightseeing spots in foreign countries, so that I thought why people established such a foreign-like spots in Japan, why in Japan? But now I understand the interest in Japanese polite service, culture and love for Japan are the reasons, is it right? Anyway, because of this first surprise, I was really impressed by the introduction of Niseko where the sound of Japanese “Wadaiko” is used efficiently. (I love “Wadaiko!”) Second, thanks to your instruction about how important English service is and how we are needed, I know how necessary the English communication skill is again and I became more positive to study English.

I’m quite interested in “hospitality” because I wanted to work at an airport or hotel and both of them need hospitality. I’m working at a cafe and in that cafe we have really strict rules about customers. If we don’t or hesitate to communicate with a customer, my seniors always say, “You have to be nice them and just communicate!” I’m trying so hard, but when it comes to customers with bad behavior, I can’t do it. I can’t communicate with them. I can’t be in hospitality. However, when I asked Chris a question about that, he said, “Be professional. Customers aren’t always right.” These words really impressed me I thought when I have to deal with that kind of people, I have to be a professional and don’t be rude to them, that is a good service.

I didn’t know that Niseko has many great institutions, activities and so on, now I want to go there! I don’t occur any place where they are conscious about international things and put them into action in Japan. Recently, governments and schools say “Be global” but I couldn’t understand how do it, and I do and have a question: “Is it OK to just learn English?” Today’s lecture told me “To become active and have confidence.” My part-time job’s reader asked me, “Do you have experience like this job?” Like that, the old idea has spread Japan until now. I want many leaders to change the mind like HTM. I only have “genki” and intention! You said, “You don’t need fluent English” the phrase raised my bravery and changed my mind. I want to become an international woman! I will try to use many English even if the English is not perfect.

Listening to today’s presentation, I came to have a strong feeling that I want to work in Niseko. I didn’t know Niseko was so popular internationally. For my future, I had a feeling that I wanted to get a job where I could use my English, however, I didn’t want to leave Japan. Because of this, I didn’t have a particular job that I wanted to get. However, listening to Chris’ lecture, I thought Niseko might be a place where I can get an ideal job. (I love skiing too.) I checked the Internet and found there are internships. This winter’s recruitment has already finished so I’m thinking of joining it in summer. Thank you so much for giving us a chance to know Niseko and your company.

Thank you for your presentation. I didn’t know that was such an attractive hotel in Japan. The scenery of the snow on the mountain in the video we watched was amazing . I really want to go there for skiing. I was impressed by your attitude about working in Niseko. When I went to abroad, I thought I had to speak perfect English, however, you said “ foreign workers will be speaking English as a second language, so you don’t have to speak English fluently.” I felt happy to hear that and it motivated me a lot!

Thank you for your presentation. Your presentation was very interesting and helpful for me because I’ve been working at a hotel as a part-time job for about 2 years and I’m interested in working at a hotel for my future job. I’m working at the banquet service section, so I don’t have many opportunities to give service to foreign customers but in the future, I want to give good service to foreigners. And I’m very encouraged by your words “good service is service that makes guests want to come back!” and “you don’t need to be fluent in English. Most visitors and foreign workers will be speaking English as a second language, like you” I’ll try to improve my service and be a good hotel worker in the future!!

To hear this presentation makes me want to travel to Niseko in my spring vacation, because I want to try to improve my English (especially speaking) and I love to work. In addition, Hokkaido is really good place to live…. It’s similar as my hometown, Niigata. So, I don’t care if it’s snowing! In this presentation I was impressed about “service”. Chris said we gave customers “intangible experience” like skiing or massaging, etc. That’s a wonderful point, resort hotels are not just to sleep. It’s important to give some memories and a good staff can produce them. Surprisingly the review is 99% which is so great. If it’s possible I want to visit there with my friends or family!

Thank you for your presentation! In your lecture, “ Be brave and not afraid to make mistakes” is the most impressive for me. Speaking, listening and writing in English are very difficult for me, but if I don’t do that, I can’t establish any relationship to foreigners. Also, foreigners I’ve met until now were never angry or rushed me to do it when I make mistakes, rather they teach me gently and listen carefully or speaking slowly. Trying to understand what foreign guests or workers want is hard, I will make a lot of mistakes, but I will challenge more. Thank you!

Today’s speech was really interesting, about hospitality and providing a service to customers and what are some of the best ways to go about doing so. In reference to HTM and Niseko, good service be described as meeting expectations when helping others to experience new things on their holiday. I agree heavily with the view of reactionary services and the companion to stereotyped Japanese services, having experienced them myself. I feel Chris summarized it very well by saying, “service that makes customers want to come back.” If more people running hotels realized this and acted similarly, then the holiday business world become even more valuable.

“Make the guests want to come back.” As Chris said, it’s something that you learn working in customers service. The first time that I work, I was a lifeguard in a waterpark that has its own resort, so I helped in many areas. I had to wear a monkey costume, play with the kids, pick up towels in the hotel, clean it, clean the swimmning pools (including the big slides), help the housekeepers and obviously the people in case of an emergency - being a lifeguard. The salary was really good. But seeing many happy faces was the best of that summer. Everything that I learned, I apply now to my current job and thank you to Chris for making me remember it.
