I didn’t know so much about Africa, so I’m surprised that mobile penetration of Africa is high and the Internet is developing. I usually get information from TV or my mobile phone. And I know that people who live in Africa also do so. Africa is different from Japan in sending and receiving money, and I am thinking about why it is different between the two countries. I imagine that in Japan, there are many systems of money and if you want to send or receive money, you must complete formal procedures, so it is troublesome. However, in Africa, I think, you need not carry out such a troublesome procedures, and it is easy to send or receive money by phone. It takes time to go to the bank. So I want to send or receive money even in Japan. Thank you for your nice presentation. I enjoyed it!

Today’s presentation was surprising and interesting. I didn’t know a lot about Africa, so I was surprised by how Africa’s growth is increasing at a fast speed. He showed us many pictures and data that I have never seen before. I was very interested in how the Internet is used for Africa’s development and I would like to know more about young people starting businesses in Africa. I think his last message saying “youth is the future” is very important, not only for Africa, but also for Japan because Japan has a declining birth rate and aging population and the young generation needs more energy.

First of all, I was very surprised to hear that Professor Otchia speaks seven languages. I thought I would like to master many languages, too. And at the same time I realized that it is taking too much time for me to master just one language, English. I felt I need to make more effort. And also, I was surprised by Africa’s high GDP growth. If medical technology or infrastructure are improved, Africa would be the center of the world. Japan should keep up with these big countries (China, Africa) and people around the world can then communicate with each other for better international relations and peace.

I’ve learned about how Africa is growing now in another class once, but today’s talk helped me to understand the facts more with some statistics from an economic view. Numbers are the best way to know deeply about some facts and changes. The reason why Africa is improving and is thought of as the hope of the world is the young and the Internet, with I didn’t know about, and it’s not only about Africa, but also about other countries. I mean the young have been constructing the world throughout history. Youth have the power to change the world even if it is said to be hopeless. I, as one of the youth, want to do something special which is connected to changing the world, not only Japan.

I’m really, really happy to have had this opportunity. I’ve never seen such an interesting presentation until Dr. Otchia came here today. We who don’t know much about Africa are apt to kind of look down on Africa as a developing country, unfortunately, but today Dr. Otchia told us about the current state in Africa and this gave me a super big interest in Africa. After life to Africa to improve problems he described and intensify further the good aspects of Africa.
