We discussed the presentation “From Rachel to Richard”. I worked with the other students and I was really surprised about what one student said. In Brazil, transgender people are open and they have freedom in the society. However, Brazil is the No.1 country in terms of LGBTQ people getting killed due to hate crimes and religious problems. In Japan, problems experienced by transgender people are not visible because many Japanese people hesitate to talk about them. LGBTQ people in Japan don’t have freedom in their society, but they have safety because killings related to LGBTQ people don’t often occur. There are both good and bad sides in Brazil and Japan, so I thought if Japanese people had more opportunity to know about this problem, Japan would be a better place to live for LGBTQ people. This class was a good chance to talk to people I usually don’t talk to. I enjoyed it very much.

It was an interesting class because we had to discuss with other people who we don’t talk to so much. I thought that it is important to be able to talk with whoever you have to talk to and if I could do this more I think I can improve my English so much. We talked and discussed about aid to foreign students, so I talked about my experiences and how we have to improve the aid for them. Finally, I think that this class was difficult, but also that it will benefit us if we want to improve our English.

国際関係 1年
Today’s activity was very interesting. Our group chose to think about what are some things we want the school to do if we were to move to an another country with our child. I personally had an experience going to a school in a foreign country, but it was difficult to think about this from a parent’s point of view. But, we got a lot of good opinions and I enjoyed sharing them with the other group. We had interesting opinions and comments from the other group, so I thought it would be fun if we could do this again with more time to think deeply.

We were talking about the challenges / benefits of international marriage or partnerships because our group had two students who have foreign parents. I also have a Chinese mother, and talked about her difficulties regarding language. We shared our parents’ experiences, and I realized that the benefits and difficulties are different family to family. And also parents that both have the same nationalities have similar experiences as people as international marriages. I think we need to focus on their own personality, and it’s most important to respect each other.

It was a really good opportunity to be able to discuss Ms. Sakashita’s speech further with my two Japanese groupmates, although for different reasons the three of us wanted to think about Ms. Sakashita’s speech, sharing “why” and comparing our points of view really provided insights about the situation of the lgbtq? community in Japan and Brazil and also about the cultural differences between the two countries and their good and bad aspects affecting the issues related to the subject. Today made me realize how happy I am being in Japan and in contact with people that can help me broaden my horizons like this. I'm very thankful.
