Thank you for your presentation. I was really surprised because my family structure is completely the same to yours. I’m in the middle and you know my father is not a rich man. I have a dream to live in the U.K. in the future. So to realize to my dream, I have to provide for myself. I used to have feelings of anxiety about what I can do to provide for myself without begin supported. But, I was given courage by you, listening to your story. You know nobody knows how the future is going to be, but I want to try to do my best as much as I possibly can.

I’ve been dreaming about becoming an English teacher since childhood, so today’s talk was really informative and extremely interesting for me. Through the speaker’s talk, I learned the importance of keeping on learning and challenging new things. She focused on teaching English for young children. Similarly, I’m interested in teaching students, but I can’t see a clear view of my future, so I’m so nervous now. However, thanks to Ms.Hattori, I noticed I have a lot of doors to the future and it’s natural to be nervous. Today’s talk reminded me a proverb, “Many drops make a shower.”

What if I don’t speak English?
I enjoyed Noriko’s speech!! and I’m surprised by her life. Did she have worries about going to US and international marriage? I’m surprised the she quit her job and went to the US without plans and that was because she loved listening to music, right? This is very surprising because for me I couldn’t go abroad because I’m afraid. But she is a challenger!! She always tries something even though she has worries. I think I also have to have her challenging heart. I thought she has many difficulties when she decides her life for example, language, money, parents, and so on. But she did it. She tried! I also have to try for something that I want to do, and I want to choose the correct door for my life. I feel like I have time to think about my life!

I felt really pleased to hear your presentation today. I major in German, but because I just wanted to learn German. I had no view to the future. My mother worries about my future, so to make her more relieved I am talking an English teaching course. Teaching is not my thing and this course is pretty hard so I was thinking of quitting it. Hearing your presentation though, I felt like I shouldn’t narrow my path to the future when it’s open now, I think I’ll keep taking the course.

Thank you for a great presentation. I am also interested in English education for young children, so it was great experience to actually hear from someone who running an English school. I went to English schools since I was 5 or 6 but looking back, I’m not sure if that experience helped me. Therefore, I was very interested in Hattori san’s way of teaching English and I would love to know more about it. I also liked now she pictured her choice in life as opening a door and I hope I can open many doors and try many things like she is doing.

Thank you for your presentation, it was really interesting and I was impressed by your attitude towards challenging yourself to do something new. I’m always afraid of changing situations and tend to choose easy ones I think that’s because I often care about what other people think about me (like going university at an older age or something). Your speech reminded me “that no one can live my life other than me.” If I don’t try anything I can’t even know if I will like it or not. So, I feel I need to be brave to challenging myself to do something new to enjoy my life.

I like English, but I have never thought about teaching English before, so I was really moved by your presentation. In your presentation, you said to learn English talking to people is the best way and I really agree with that idea. But, I think currently English education in Japan is mainly aimed at reading skills in English (and this applies to me as well). I think to achieve this, being active is very meaningful. That means that English education for young children is very effective and meaningful. I hope many Japanese will speak English in the future.

I really liked Ms. Noriko’s lecture. As with of our previous lectures, we listened to someone who took a different path in life, deviating, even if just a little bit, from path most of society believes is the correct, right one. Sometimes we don’t even notice when we part ways with what society (be it our family, friends, classmates or colleagues) expects from us ? academically or professionally speaking. I am all for people who, like Ms. Noriko, believe the right path is the one that makes you feel happy, and if that path doesn’t make you happy, you’d better choose another one. Starting from zero again is easier said than done, I know, I’ve done it. But from what we’ve been listening to in this class, it’s more than worth it.

Today’s lecture was really good to think about my own future. Ms. Noriko talked a little bit about her life experience and about some of her biggest choices. It was interesting to know about her way of making decisions and I think one of the main messages she could transmit to us is that we do not need to be afraid and that we can “open doors” to anywhere we want to go and see what we can do there. And if we “open a door” and don’t like what we get there, we can always “open another door”. This certainly was a very encouraging seminar for me and I hope to be less afraid to make my own decisions.

I found it interesting to learn about the number of choices Ms. Hattori has made up to this day and her achievements through perseverance and hard work are amazing, as I understand that teaching and maintaining a business are two different matters and both are extremely challenging. It had made me consider what is good for me to maintain this mindset and goal-less future of mine are once I’ve graduated. As an exchange student from England, I have already made the choice to open the door of studying abroad, but it increases the number of choices to consider in my dilemma regarding future choices. Maybe I should find a goal soon, or maybe find something I’m relatively good at. For the meantime, I’ll keep trying various things.
