Today I talked a media problem with my group members. We picked out the news event “Donald Trump became the U.S. President” as 2017 news. In my opinion, we mustn’t decide Donald Trump is a bad person only from TV news. However, the influence from TV is huge for almost all people around the world. More and more people tend to believe the information from TV directly. It is not a good tendency. On the Internet as well, we have to doubt whether news is true or not. It is related to media literacy. People have to think about their literacy and focus on how to read the news on TV. I want to bear this in mind.

My group was talking about “Media literacy” today. When we were asked about the most important news event from 2017, all members came up with the incident of Donald Trump becoming the U.S. President. I think this shows how media influences our opinions or way of thinking. News concerning President Trump was highly covered in News programs and I think that is why we came up with his name. We realized how passively have we get information and understand it, especially from TV. Sources of information become more diverse, including YouTube or SNS, and I think now it the time, we should learn “media literacy” and use information with full use of it.

Today is the last day of this class. We listened to many speeches, and considered a lot of things. Today our group chose “Problem at our part-time job” and “How to overcome them.” I would like to write about my experience. I worked for an apparel shop for one year and sometimes I had to ask customers things like “How is it going?” or “It is cute, isn’t it?” though I don’t want to. Then some people ignored me at all the time, and I was offended by them. But after quitting the job, I found that I got a strong mental strength in terms of not caring their thoughtless action. It was hard for me to put up with their actions, but I already know that I was able to have a great experience.

We talked a lot about what problems we’ve had in our part-time jobs. I work at a music store. There, sometimes foreign customers come to buy CDs. I try to talk with them in English, and most of the time, I succeeded in making myself understood. But sometimes they can speak neither Japanese nor English. Then, I try to communicate with body language, but I often fail. So, to be more international, the stores should hire one or two clerks who can speak Chinese, Korean, Spanish or some other languages. And I’m learning Spanish now, so I want to be tri-lingual and become capable of talking with Spanish-speaking customers in their language.

Today our group discussed the topic “What would you choose; go to London or to stay in Nagoya.” I think I’d like to stay because long-distance relationships are very difficult, especially from a different country. And without my boyfriend, I’d be so lonely. But one of my group members chose to go to London. Because realizing her dream is more important for her. And in a new place, she has a possibility of meeting a new person. Thanks to this discussion, I heard the different ideas and it makes me reconsider. After discussing within our group, we shared our ideas with a different group. Thanks to the chance we got time to listen to other topics and other ideas. During this time, I used English and I heard lot of English. It was a wonderful time for me. Thank you for giving me such a good time. And Andrea and Alun thank you for giving me a wonderful class.

Our group discussed “What would you choose to do and why?” If I have just been offered my dream job, I think I will go because a dream job is very attractive for me now, and I think there are a lot of new encounters and I can experience new life, and also, I will have a job, so I can earn money. Another member said she will stay in Nagoya with her boyfriend because she would be so lonely being long distant relationship. When we discussed another group, all members said, “I’ll go.” That time we asked that do you have BF/GF or not, conclusion of this research and discussion is that the people who have boyfriend or girlfriend now will stay and the other people will just go, so simple. Through all lectures, each speaker made me think more positively. Thanks for wonderful presentations from all.

We discussed about if you have just been offered the job of your dreams, but it is in London, your boyfriend/girlfriend want you to stay with them in Nagoya. So, which would you choose? My team members and I chose to make our dream come true because a great opportunity will not revisit. I don’t want to have regrets and I think my life is always mine. However, one of the other team member chose to stay with GF/BF because it is more important than anything in the world for her, and some of the other team members said if I am in the situation I choose my dream but if my BF in this same situation I would say “please stay with me in Nagoya.” In my case, I will go to London with my BF.

In my opinion today’s discussion was a great final for the seminar. Our group had a very heated and personal discussion about the whole Metoo issue, but in the end, we decided to go with a more easy and impersonal topic as all of us did not feel comfortable to talk about this issue with Japanese people as it’s hard to explain the fine differences of consent to people who grew up in a society that is pretty much unaware of the topic. In the end I would like to thank you for choosing great seminars, interesting topics and creating an atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable sharing their opinions and thought. Please keep up the good work!

Today’s discussion was very exciting. We got to share some personal experiences and opinion on interesting issues with our friends which I’m very happy about. In our group we chose to talk about something very familiar to all of us-experience of problem at a part-time job. We all had something to tell. Also, we discussed the relationship question as we are all girls and are very interested in such things. The discussion was about choosing between dream job or a relationship. Obviously, it’s a personal choice for everyone. However, I’ve noticed that group mates who are not currently in a relationship or hasn’t got such experience tend to choose a dream career over a relationship without any doubt. I found it curious.

Life is hard and there are few things which are truly valuable and important. Two of the most important things are love and career. And they don’t go hand in hand with each other. Furthermore, it’s difficult enough to achieve just one of these two things. Sometimes if a person is lucky enough, they will get the chance to achieve both love and career. But life is not always fair, and it may come to the point where you need to decide: Love or Money. For example, what if your dream job is at the end of the world? That was the question we discussed in our group and it’s not an easy one. Moreover, it depends on the circumstances. How long do you need to be separated? Is it really your dream job? Is he/she really your true love? Answering these things is not easy and it depends on the person but unfortunately one of the partners will probably get hurt. Either the one who loses his/her dream job or the other one who has been left for a better career.
