感想

I was surprised to know that Ms. Kanda went to America as an exchange student and stayed there from when she was 15 years old to when she graduated from a local university. I think she had a lot of difficulties at first, but she managed to graduate from university and learn English. I was dazzled by her words when she said “without this experience, I wouldn’t be who I am now.” I realized again that what is most important to become a success is hard working. Also, thanks to her, I got to know about her work as a social worker that I didn’t know before.

I realized that a lot of people lack any knowledge concerning multicultural social work and communities. I used to do volunteer activities for foreigners who had been detained at the Immigration Bureau in Aichi prefecture. In the interviews with them, I often heard stories where they came to Japan as interns and quit their job because of the toughness of the work in the end. I think that their working condition is very serious problem. But above all, I realized that they lacked knowledge about Japan’s legal system and Immigration Law. Because they did not know that if they lost their job, they would also lose their job, they would also lose their residential status at the same time. I think if they had known the existence of the presenter’s job and the communities she joined, they could have avoided the worst. Today, I’m glad to know the importance of her job, role and the existence of multicultural social communities.

Thank you for your presentation. It was very nice to hear about your job because I used to live in America and, as a foreigner, I had some difficulties living there and I was helped by friends who lived there. But, there were something that I couldn’t even talk to my friends about, so I thought it would be great if there was someone like you in my neighborhood. Japanese society is becoming more and more global, so I hope that people who have a job like yours will increase. It is difficult to live in a foreign country, but if there’s someone like you nearby, more people will become more international. I think that’s wonderful.

I didn’t know that Nagoya has the employment service center for foreigners. I think it’s very hard for foreigners to find jobs in Japan. Like Ms. Kanda said, there are lots of foreigners who don’t have any connections to support. I think that the job of helping such people is wonderful. I realized that Ms. Kanda was engaged in a lot of jobs and saved problem a lot of people who have trouble getting by or who have a problem with their family. I think it’s very difficult for me to help people who have some troubles, but at the same time, I learned that helping people is a very brave and, a nice thing from today’s lecture.

I think that multiculturalism has been defined as a philosophy that suggests that society should consist of, at least recognize and include with equal status, diverse cultural groups. There are a lot of problems for residents from foreign countries. It’s really nice work to provide consultation for them. And multicultural education makes sure that all students have accesses to experiences that allow them to build cross-cultural understanding and intercultural communication skills. I think that it’s important to incorporate multicultural, antiracism, and human rights perspectives in school policies and practices. And it’s also necessary to enhance teachers’ and students’ intercultural understanding and cross-cultural communication skills. In conclusion, we should cooperate with and help each other.

There are many people who have family problems in Japan. It’s not only native Japanese people’s problems, but many foreigners also have family problems in Japan. Particularly, foreign children, and they can’t consult with other people because of the language problem. My friend also suffered from the family problem. She is a half of Korean and half Japanese person, and her mother died when she was a child. So, she is a single parent child, but her father always beat her when he drank alcohol like you example “Indonesian woman’s problem.” When I heard this, I was very sad because my friend always looks happy, and smiles, so I couldn’t notice her family problems. If I knew the welfare facility, I would consult about the problem. I could have advised her to go there, but I didn’t know that so I can’t support her. Therefore, your job is very important because many people suffer from many problems.

It was a really good lecture through which I could understand that being a social worker is much more difficult and burdensome than I had expected. In addition to the basic work such as interpreting and organizing events, they have to be a kind of friend to those who are in a tough situation, without losing their professionality. Ms. Kanda got emotional being asked about her hardest experience, as it involves many emotional aspects. So, it must be very hard depending on the case. However, since it is a job aimed at helping people directly, I am sure it is a very satisfying job.

その他

I am actually nearly interested in this kind of job so it was such a nice lecture. In the future, I want to do something to help out parents and children who have multicultural backgrounds. I study about early childhood education now and I’ve lived in the States for 4 years. So I want to use my skills to help someone. So, this lecture helped me a lot and made my future vision more clear. I’m happy that I was able to listen to and learn from Ms. Kanda.

留学生

This is probably the most useful presentation of all, being an exchange student. I’m very interested in going volunteer work and helping to improve woman’s rights in Japan, so the work done by Ms. Sumire is an inspiration. I hope one day, I can be like that and create happiness for others. I would love to maintain contact with Ms. Sumire and learn from her, so I can get closer to the woman that I want to be.

留学生

I was amazed by today’s lecture. I didn’t know that there are such facilities in Japan or Nagoya. This country takes good care of international residents. It was so important for me, personally, to hear that sometimes life is not easy and everyone can get into a complicated situation, and at that time it shouldn’t matter whether you’re a foreigner or not. As Ms. Sumire said we all have a right to be happy, and get help. Ms, Sumire made me feel respect for her and the job she’s doing. I wish, one day, I could get such a job too, although it’s such a responsibility; other people’s lives depend on you and your knowledge and actions. There is nothing more important and satisfying than helping people, I think we share this opinion with Ms. Sumire.
