This presentation was so informative as I can learn new aspects about the Port of Nagoya even though I’ve been living in Minato Ward for many years. To be honest, I’m not so willing to have a job in Nagoya because this is where I spent most of my entire life. I would like to be exposed to other environments that are quite new to me. This doesn’t mean that I undervalue my beloved hometown. Through your speech, I found so many people are trying to improve the Port of Nagoya. I am so proud of this place because it’s a bridge to another world.

Thank you very much for your lecture. Actually I grew up in a town on the foot of a mountain and had no idea what Nagoya Port itself is like, but listening to your explanation about the function of the port, I found it really essential and we cannot maintain our normal loves without it. However, I also realize how much Japan has been relying on the supplies from foreign countries. Now Japanese conference reached an agreement on TPP and I doubt that Japan can keep its current conditions.

I have been to Nagoya aquarium a few times, so I have just seen Nagoya Port. Then, it seemed like a big port and there were many ships which loaded up with big cargoes. After her lecture, I found out that the port is key for our daily life because if we cannot trade food and other things with foreign countries, we cannot live in Japan. That’s why the port is an entrance for our lives and an essential trade place. Next time when I visit there, I’d like to observe the movement of the ships and imagine where they come from.

I was surprised to hear that about 99.7% of imports go through ports. Whenever I order something online, they sent my products by air. I had thought air transport was the main way until today, when I listened to this presentation. My life is supported by Nagoya Port and now I really appreciate it. I’m interested in working there to support people living in Aichi.

In her presentation, I learned how ports are important and how people don’t know this fact. Japan cannot survive without importation because we don’t have much farmland and there are many things we cannot produce. Although people do not know of the occupations such as Ms. Mitsuda’s job, Japanese people should know that Japan is not so independent and this country cannot be good without support from other countries.

Working at a port was beyond my imagination. I did not know that the Port of Nagoya undertakes so much that it even holds a fireworks festival. I had thought a company or enterprise held that kind of event using the Port of Nagoya. Actually, last year I watched the fireworks held at the Port of Nagoya, and it was pretty good. Realizing it was one of the jobs the Port of Nagoya did, I felt it may be interesting to work at the Port.

I enjoyed her presentation because I grew up near the port and the sea. I’m from Toyama and my hometown has a port, so I am familiar with the port. The port has been a fascinating place for me since I was a child. Besides this, I went to the port of Nagoya when I was an elementary school student. I was moved by the aquarium. What is more, I like the night view of the port very much. I sometimes see the night view of my hometown from the bridge. Thanks to Ms. Mitsuda’s presentation, I recognized the importance of the port again. The port is a big part in our lives. So we should be grateful for people who work at the port. And, I thought that women can speak English is so cool!!

At first, I thought airplanes were more important for transportation than ships. So I thought most transported goods are imported by airplane. But it was the first time to hear that 99.7% of international cargo passes through ports in Japan. I was very surprised by this fact. And I noticed again that if we lose our ability to export by ships, our life might be seriously affected. Furthermore, ports function as an entry for not only goods but also people. So I reconfirmed the importance of ships.

I was born in Shimizu in Shizuoka Prefecture. Shimizu is known as a port town and there are many fish markets. Honestly Shimizu Port is a deserted port, so local people hardly go there. However when I visited Sydney Harbor, I saw a lot of local people near the harbor. They did things on their own, a man played a guitar, a woman read a book, and children played tag and so on. How beautiful scene that was! Japanese people hardly go to ports because they are not attractive. But I think doing something near the sea is ideal. So we should increase attractive place to spend time near ports.

Today, I learned a lot about port in Nagoya (a lot of information about it) and I’m very surprised by Ms. Junko’s English ability. The most attractive information in her presentation was about the actual work. They have to do many invisible jobs such as securing, Environment and port planning. Although they are invisible, these are the important work for Nagoya city, In Nagoya Port Authority, they need language skills, but they have to be professional in the port business. This is a very impressive phrase for me. I want to be a professional in some field, not just an interpreter.
