感想

I think that compared to Africa and European countries, we are not very well informed about Africa. I was very surprised to hear about development in Africa countries because we rarely see it in the media here in Japan. I was also very surprised to hear about the way they see the borders of countries. Mr. Otchia said that “everybody ii the same, but still unique” and I was surprised and happy to hear this. I think if everybody thinks like the way Africans do, the world would be more peaceful. I hope to hear more about African countries, in the news, as I am looking forward to hearing more about their progress as a continent.

I’ve heard that Africa isn’t as poor as we imagine. I knew African people use cellphones. However, the mobile money system surprised me very much. It isn’t safe so we can’t call it advanced but it’s actually high-tech.Mr. Otchia said most Africans think they can’t be rich where they live. I think Japanese are the same. They often think they should learn English because it is a superior language. Some people even hope to be western. I hope the world will become one. We are one big family!

I learned so many new things today from his presentation. First, I learned that the African economy is getting better. People in Africa are starting to use mobile phones. I was surprised to know that because there is no bank system like there is in Japan, they use their mobile phones to transfer money to someone else. So, only phone numbers are needed to complete the transfer and I found this interesting. Also, currency exchange can be done outside in Africa, and I thought that it’s dangerous but it’s not, according to him. Most of the things he told us were new to me and I was so glad to learn about them.

I felt he gap and difference between countries through today’s speech. For example, I was shocked that a lot of money is piled up on the street. In Japan, we absolutely can’t see this situation. According to his speech, African countries are making more remarkable progress than I expected. In addition, I felt that Japan is too advanced and I think it’s bad situation. This is because we (most of the young people) always use smartphones or watch TV. Time to talk with our friends is decreasing little by little. And the crime with technology is increasing. Advanced technology does not always bring wealth, I felt African people’s smiles in some photos beamed with joy.

Today’s topic was really interesting for me. There are two subjects which left a strong impression on me. One thing is the subject about ethnic groups. I had known that there are a lot of ethnic groups in Africa but I didn’t understand the real situation. I think it’s interesting that each country has an ethnic language and an official language. Second, I was surprised that mobile phones have spread throughout Africa. I didn’t know that so many people have mobile phones in Africa. But the way they use them is different from us, which is also interesting.

Before listening to today’s lecture, I misunderstood about Africa. I thought it is not yet develop. So, I’m very surprised to hear that African people also use some electronic products and mobile phones. Although the connection of Internet isn’t developed yet, I think it will be developed the same as it is in Japan. However, when technology develops more in Africa, I don’t want African ethnic culture to disappear.

I didn’t know about the currency African economic growth and changes. In Japan, there’s adequate infrastructure but Africa still don’t have this. So the difference between various systems was very interesting to me. In particular, I was very surprised by the bank in the street. And the picture that shows people wearing ethnic clothes and using cellphones was also unique. I thought in Africa cellphones may be more essential than in Japanese life. There are a lot of applications adapted to African life, such as iCow or Mpedigree and it was very interesting to me.

I’m glad that I got a chance to listen to this interesting speech. I thought that electricity in Africa is still inadequate before I listened to his speech. I was very surprised to hear that. Since electricity has been improving, our daily lives are becoming very convenient, with using our smartphones we can chat anyone even if there is much distance between us. However, I think that I should not forget that there are many serious issues because of this convenience. So we must be careful about using something useful.

I enjoyed today’s class a lot. Mr. Otchia has such a lovely personality, telling all these funny stories during the presentation. I felt he is a wonderful teacher. Mr. Otchia told us about his native continent, Africa. I always felt pity for people living there because of the continent’s slow development compared to other countries. After today’s presentation, I feel hope for the African people. People tend to say some bad things about cell phones and such technologies in general, but in this case they have an indisputable advantage. I believe that Africa will finally rise soon.

It was an incredible talk because we could compare the basic differences in daily life between people living in Africa and japan.  I’m from another country and it was so interesting for me to compare the differences with my own countries too. Spain is so near to Africa and for how Otchia sensei was talking about the family and friends relationships I could see it’s so similar. However, I’m so glad to know that little by little Africa is improving the general situation and the people having more opportunities.
