We may know the six official languages needed by the U.N. However, who knew that they were decided due to social history? When Mr. Kawa said these countries had an alliance during World WarⅡ, it was a new discovery for me. I hope COP10 will be held again in Nagoya, so I can experience the atmosphere.

I had known the names of COP10 and ESD, but I didn’t know about the people who work as volunteers and the people who planned the conferences. I can easily imagine how difficult it is to invite many people from the countries around the world and to hold such conferences. I was surprised at the number of countries which participants come from. In addition, there were many interpreters who can speak different languages, so I was surprised. If I have a chance, I want to join some international conferences or I want to work as a volunteer.

Today I learned a lot about international conferences. At international conferences they have to take account of many things, such as food and religion. I didn’t know they had to prepare four kinds of food, such as vegetarian, halal, etc. I didn’t know Centrair also had Halal certified foods and a prayer room. I was also surprised that iCoToBa made a pamphlet which was very interesting. If there are chances to volunteer, I want to join them in doing this kind of work!

Thank you for your lecture today. I was surprised that urgent issues related to Education for Sustainable Development are different between developed countries and developing countries. Developed countries worry about environmental issues like global warming. But, we have to think about these issues with regard to all countries because the earth does not consist of only developed countries. Also developed countries can’t imagine the issues about civil war, human rights and poverty because we don’t have to worry about them now. But we have to help solve these issues. So, ESD is a good opportunity to talk about these issues from both sides.

Thank you for your lecture about International Conferences. Today’s topic was so interesting for me because I’m interested in volunteer activities and jobs which are related to other countries. Thanks to your lecture, I learned much about what is the key to hosting international conferences successfully. What impressed me most was Mr. Kawa’s description of the three points you should keep in mind when you are involved in hosting such conferences. I will try speaking English more and more, giving my opinion and getting information about Japan if I have a chance to join international conferences in the future.

First, I was surprised to know the fact that 1/4 of the people in the world are Muslim. I didn’t know what topics are discussed in International Conferences until I listened to today’s lecture. Views on Biodiversity and views on ESD are controversial problems. Speaking of Biodiversity, developing countries and developed countries are developing on each other. I think developed countries should bear the expense of developing products such as types of medicine and supporting the protection of natural resources because developed countries enjoy the benefits made possible by this support.

I didn’t know about Aichi Prefectural Government and International Conferences: ESD conference and COP10. I learned how the host city Aichi-Nagoya prepared for the conferences and treated participating countries from this lecture. It is the first time I’ve heard that volunteer workers played an active part as the host city’s staff. Now, I’m interested in this activity, so I want to join this volunteer work. I’m proud that International Conferences were held in Nagoya.

Today’s lecture was a little difficult for me to understand because there were many things about conference. I learned about the difficulties of welcoming people from all over the world. I think it is hard to give an environment that will satisfy everyone from different cultures, because doing so requires a lot of preparation. I didn’t know very much about big international conferences, so today’s lecture was a good opportunity for me to learn about them.

I found out that a world conference, like COP10, is managed by a lot of people. There are many interpreters in the conference, volunteers who speak English and who set up the conference room, and so on. I felt that to make a world conference successful is not easy. So, if I have a chance I would like to work as a volunteer. Some foreign visitors don’t know so much about Japan, so making a booklet to learn about Japan is very effective. I think that it is important to attend to the needs of foreigners, by having the feeling of “Omotenashi”

Today’s speaker, Mr. Kawa worked for COP10 and ESD. I am interested in large international conferences especially ESD, so it was a very good opportunity for me. This semester, I took a course on environment and researched on ESD a lot. I know how big this conference is. Mr. Kawa explained his job and I think it was very hard to establish good relationships with people all over the world in a short time. I was impressed about interpretation. It was interesting that many interpreters work at the same time. I wanted to volunteer and to see the real conference. I could have learned many interesting things volunteering as a student studying foreign languages.
