I could learn a lot of things from today's lesson. One thing I was impressed by is that even Ireland had such hard times in its history, such as Viking raids and Cromwell's invasion of Ireland, and their culture and attitudes toward living are very cheerful. The music was very bright and easy-listening. So I think Ireland is a very strong country with solid and positive spirit.

I have never listened to such a fantastic speech before. I enjoyed all the topics he chose for today from my heart. I am interested in Irish music but I had some old-fashioned idea about Irish music, as it is used for background music in adventure games in Japan. So I thought Irish music was sublime, complicated, moving but hard to enjoy. However, I learned a lot of old Irish songs from this speech and I found many fun songs in Irish. I also played the guitar and the mandolin, so I remembered the fun of playing these instruments.

I knew little about Ireland. But now, I want to go to Ireland! Ireland is a very lovely country. The place, castles, rivers and the music were very lovely! Through Dr. Cullen's singing, I learned about the culture and the history of Ireland. The lyrics of the song "Sally Garden" inspired me. "Go easy in love… Go easy in life." What a nice song!! Listening to Dr. Cullen's singing made me realize that we should slow down a little bit and enjoy life!

I didn't know about Ireland, so this lecture was so pleasant. What I am most interested in is Irish history because I have never learned Irish history from the Irish side. The Irish view of Cromwell is especially surprising because I just learned about him from the British perspective. I think I will study the history of Ireland from both sides. Therefore, this lecture gave me another point of view! I'm going to learn various kinds of history from both sides!

I'm interested in Irish fairy tales because they are quite different from Japanese ones. In Japan, many kinds of ghost or monster stories are famous and well known. I thought the ideas or meanings to these stories are related to the different religion of each country. Also my image of Western fairies was like those seen in Disney fairy tales. But actually, there are some scary and sad fairies like those in Japanese stories, and their appearances were not attractive. It was new for me.

Thank you for your lecture and wonderful songs. I enjoyed them so much. Before the lecture, I didn't know much about Ireland. However, thanks to you, I learned about Irish culture, history, language and so many other things. What I was most surprised by was that most people speak English in public and that few people use Irish. I became interested in Ireland and I hope to visit there someday! Go raibh maith agat:)

Thank you for your speech. I was glad to hear you sing and play the guitar well, and I enjoyed singing with you. I want to listen to more Irish music. Also, I sympathized with you about your hometown. You said "In my hometown, there are only mountains and rivers, so I have nothing to do. It's dull. But, now I think mountains and rivers are nice!!" I think so, too. Now, I live alone. When I left my hometown, I noticed that nature is good for the first time.

I lived in England for five years when I was in Junior High and Secondary school and had some occasions in my history and geography classes to study about Ireland. I was very surprised about the facts that people in Ireland are so cheerful and that they don't like England. It was interesting that they don't like Cromwell. After today's class, I can understand why. I enjoyed singing, it was so fun. Go raibh maith agat.

I listened to Irish music for the first time. It is very calm and he sang in a gentle voice, so I liked the songs. I was surprised that the government pays people to learn Irish. It is a very nice idea to keep their mother tongue alive. I think the Japanese government should do something like Ireland to protect regional dialects.

I enjoyed the fantastic Irish music. It made me feel as if I was in Ireland. I'm interested in the statements, "If you stayed in Ireland instead of Japan…" Compared with Japan, I guess I can live close to nature in Ireland. But, as for medical or social security, I feel it's better in Japan. So, I want to know more about the lifestyle in Ireland. I wish I could visit Ireland some day!
