I want to go abroad, especially to France. Listening to this speech, I felt that going abroad is a very wonderful experience. In Japan, even if I study foreign language hard, there are a lot of things which I can't know unless I go abroad. Furthermore, going abroad is connected to gaining my confidence. It will be useful in getting a job.

I'm planning to study abroad in Germany next year. I want to stay there for a year if I can. I want to be able to speak German fluently someday! My friends who are from Germany speak very good and interesting Japanese. They say, "you can speak German if you come to Germany!" I would like to go to the US too, for sightseeing (not for studying), because I like basketball (NBA)! And South Korea too, because I have friends there. I need money.

I enjoyed this lecture. When I was in New Zealand to study English, I had a good time and experience. Not just studying English but having confidence and good relationship with my friends in New Zealand as well. So I want to go abroad again and learn many things. Actually, I didn't have an idea of going to the US. But now, I'm very interested in a program about California, the US!

I've seen a poster about exchanging students. Up until now I wasn't interested in them. By coming to this university, I found many people experienced such a system. For me, it was surprising. And I was impressed with the fact that all of them said, "I had good experiences." I feel it is very helpful for me. And one day, I want to carry it out.

I think studying abroad has a lot of advantages. It's a good way for improving our English skill levels. And, we can find another way to see the matters---life, friendship or future. We might be able to be more social. However, to decide to study abroad requires us to have courage. In my opinion, that courage will support our lives after that.

I learned lots of things from the speech. Studying abroad is very important. Many famous people also had studied abroad and learned lots of things there. Studying abroad has lots of meanings. First, we can study the language. Second, we can feel the atmosphere, view, and buildings. Third, we can learn the culture, religion, history and so on. Finally, we can communicate with lots of people. They're all important. I'll go to the UK to study in March. I'm shy. So I decided to do that to improve my character. As Mr. Wheeler said, we can get confidence from studying abroad. I want to do my best!

When I was a high school student, my goal was entering a university to study English. Now, after I entered university, I'm studying English. However, I don't have a big dream and vaguely want to study abroad. Through this lesson, I came to want to do it strongly! I've never been to foreign countries. If I would study abroad, I could realize the diversity or common points between Japan and other countries firsthand. I was surprised that the international student could stay connected with people in the host country for a long time in the future. I enjoyed this lesson very much.

Today's speech is very interesting for me, because exchange students from Japan to America could face many problems to solve. Recently, Japanese people don't intend to study abroad. This situation has some reasons. In general, Japanese economy is weak, so people wouldn't like to use money. But, this action is wrong. Now or never, we have to solve this situation and go abroad. Therefore, young Japanese people should go abroad more and get some skills to compete with other countries.

It was a very interesting speech and I could get much useful information about my concerns I have had before, for example, about safety, visas, and domestic employment challenge. But the most impressive message is that we should have courage to put ourselves out of our comfort zones. Mr. Wheeler gave us some examples of exchange students' problems, and (though he didn't mention) in the slide there was one---"Students are too shy." Indeed, it is a big and important problem for students who want to go abroad. It is an important thing that we encourage ourselves.

It was shocking to hear that most of Japanese companies' presidents have never experienced studying abroad. As globalism proceeds, Japan needs to compete with other countries such as South Korea, China, India and so on. If Japanese job hunting system makes students hesitate to go abroad to study, it will cause serious problems on economy in the long term.

Thank you for your wonderful presentation. The topic was exactly what I wanted to know. I really love to go abroad and see the world. Now I'm happy that I can study Chinese because it's getting to be one of the most important languages all over the world. I still feel sorry that it's a little hard for us to spend so much time studying abroad. We could feel inferiority when we get a job. But today you taught me "how long" is not so important and it depends on the person. I think this problem is worth fighting for in Japanese culture. Someday I hope that the society will change and it will be more comfortable for students to go abroad and see the world. No more national isolation. PS:Thank you very much.

U.S University's tuition and fees on average are higher than those in Japan. I thought Japanese private university's tuition is higher so I was very surprised. If Japanese society establishes "English as an official language", I would study English harder.

I heard many Chinese and Indian students study abroad, while Japanese students studying abroad are decreasing. I was shocked but it is a clear thing that shy Japanese students are increasing. I'm included in it too. However ,they also really want to get an ability so we do our best to brush up our shills in our country or start to overcome shyness.

[TITLE] Staying Connected : Promoting U.S - Japan Youth Exchange
I think most students who study foreign languages want to go abroad, and so do I. Certainly it costs a lot of money and going to foreign countries only by oneself is very scary. But probably we will get good experiences. By the way, Why do we want to go abroad? In my case, I want to work with the skill of English. I want to connect the world to Japan. I want everyone to know the splendor of Japan, and Japanese should know the splendor of the world. Languages are just tools not the object. We should think what we want to do and what we can do after learning languages.

About overcoming the Employment challenge. I think it's very important to encourage students to study abroad earlier. When I studied English in Canada, although the period was only 1 month, I learned many valuable things other than English. Those are courage to live in a strange country, pleasure in talking with foreigners in English and precious friends. And I became positive and I am now enjoying job hunting!
