She was one of the good examples who are using English as a communication tool. I'm happy to see her and listen to her presentation. Before, I had joined RUFF, which is an international volunteer club in this university. And we, the club members, had an exhibition. We collected many pictures in Indonesia and displayed them to show the real world in Indonesia during the school festival. We also sell some hand-made bracelets made by Indonesians. At that time, I had mixed feelings, because even though we had this kind of exhibition, I was not sure if there is much point in doing that. Today, however, Ms.Yanagisawa said it is important to be aware of the fact in developing countries. If you are aware of it, it will make people take action in the future. Because of these words, I found that the exhibition was meaningful and I'm happy to know that. I'd like to keep paying attention to news around the world.

Today, we don't have to worry about a medical institution, because there are many medical institutions in Japan. However, there are many developing countries in the world. People who live there always worry whether they can live tomorrow or not. This situation is unfair. They have a right to receive medical treatment like Japanese. Then, we have to think what we can do and try hard supporting them. This is the problem which we have to solve.

Today I realized that we have various differences: for example, cultural, traditional, economical, and political ones. If we help other people, we have to understand the difference, because "common sense" is our own. They have their own "way." She showed us these words: "One Planet: Two Different Worlds." But we should think "One Planet: There are a lot of worlds." Then we can provide real support.

I listened to this lecture. More people under five years old die in developing countries than developed countries. Babies in a developing country are smaller than normal babies because they aren't given enough nutrition and so on. But I listened to stories like these many times. This situation has come to light many years ago. Mothers in developing countries can't bear babies safely because the environment isn't created properly. It's a pity.

I came to know that Cambodia and Sierra Leone have many serious problems of people's health. Also I came to know Japan is supporting them by dispatching a people, for example, as Seinenkaigai Kyouryokutai. It is a very important and good action, but I think the most important action should be done by people in the actual local place. So Japanese volunteers must train them and give them the knowledge of medicine, I think.

I was surprised many times in this presentation. It might be natural in these developing countries; however, I couldn't believe that mothers who have twins in her womb never know they are not a big baby but twins. And I look up to Ms.Yanagisawa because she has faith. I'm ashamed of myself for not doing anything for the world. I'll study harder English and Spanish. If I speak both languages, I could help many people.

I was impressed with concrete activities. I have not known how they work. I was surprised at health system in Cambodia. There are many differences. I think it is very difficult to volunteer in medical services in the actual place because we don't know the culture, tradition and customs. There are many developing countries, but I hope people suffering from hunger will decrease little by little. I want to find something I can do.

I thought the Cambodia's government should build hospitals for people in rural areas. I didn't know safe delivery was only for rich people who could live in urban areas. I can't believe that 60% of birth attendants in rural areas are unskilled. If I lived in the area, I would make up my mind not to give birth. I really appreciate having been born in Japan.

This is the first time for me to have a lecture about many medical cases in the world. I wasn't so much interested in a story of this type. But, I thought, by listening to this presentation, we should be more interested in the medical problems in the world. Japanese life expectancy is the longest in the world. I think Japanese medical technology can save the lives of foreigners.

The words "One Planet: Two Different Worlds" are very unforgettable. The two stories are very interesting. I didn't know about the present conditions in Africa and Asia. Today's class made me think seriously about these countries. I spent my life without any problems which those people are suffering from. I must appreciate my life and be aware of other countries from now on.
