Thank you for your speech.  I read one of the articles of the Japan Times about the new U.S. ambassador to Japan.  I don’t know what job ambassadors do well, but the article says that Japanese and Americans pay attention to her because of her lineage and the strong relation between President Obama.  Of course I know John. F. Kennedy, so I’m interested in his daughter and how she will work is the position.  I think this is a good chance for both Japan and America to get closer in various points.

I think Japan is at a turning point now and needs to be reconsidered international relations.  Particularly, the relation with the US is deep.  I believe the two nations are friends.  So cultural exchanges between the two nations are needed than ever.  Japan can’t live in the international society alone.  So nation’s bond has to become strong.  I came to want to know the US, and Americans want to know Japan.

In 2011, I suffered from the Tohoku earthquake.  At that time, many foreign people helped to reconstruct my hometown.  A lot of sufferers were saved by Operation  TOMODACHI.  I thank them from the bottom of my heart.  Although there are many problems between Japan and the US, I think we should cooperate with each other.  I hope our relationship will last forever.  I’ll pay attention to Mrs. Kennedy, ambassadress’ activity.

Listening to the lecture, I felt that the US and Japan are really close to each other and how strong the relationship is.  I knew that we were good friends but thought that we still had many problems to solve in terms of difference in our policies.  However, he said in the lecture there aren’t any big disagreements or problems between us, so I really was surprised how well we interact with each other.  I used to live in the U. S. and I loved the country.  I really hope to know more about our relationship and be a part of it to make it a better one.

I learned the economic relationship between Japan and the US is very strong.  I think Japan and the US help each other.  Japan is undergoing reconstruction for cooperation of the US when we had an earthquake two years ago especially.  I hope the good relationship between Japan and the US will last forever.

Recently I heard Caroline Kennedy would become new ambassador.  Today I knew she is interested in Japanese culture and she is close to Obama.  She calls him.  So I’m glad to hear such a great woman came to Japan.  Then I’m also interested in TPP.  Japanese farmers are worried about rice.  I couldn’t understand Harry’s answer so much.  But maybe he said in Japan there are many productions except agriculture.  I also think TPP is beneficial for Japan, for example, automobile, other foods and so on.  So I get to accept a tendency of TPP in the future.

Sometimes they say Japan is under the U.S.’s thumb.  I agreed to the thought.  Through this lecture I learned the US regards Japan as an important “partner”, not a slave.  The news about Caroline Kennedy also made me think that the U.S. wanted to make good relationship with Japan.  I also hope it will be realized.

There is a connection as a sister city between Sacramento and Matsuyama in Ehime prefecture, my hometown.  For about thirty two years, students in Matsuyama have been sent to Sacramento every year.  There is a road named “Sacramento dori” in Matsuyama.  The states of relationship between the USA and Japan is different from place to place, I think.  In Matsuyama, it is good.  But in Okinawa, some people are worried.  The connection will not disappear.  So, we have to think about it carefully.  The important thing is that we shouldn’t have up-and-down relationships, I think.

I understand that the U.S. and Japan have various relationships, such as security, economy, education and so on, I think these relationships are equal.  I hope that the U.S. and Japan will keep good relationships, I think it important to cooperate in order to keep pace or to improve education.

Thank you for your presentation.  I don’t know much about TPP so I can’t write my opinion very well, but I think it is good for many countries to join TPP.  Each country has its good point.  For example, Japan is famous for products related to IT, food, cars, technology and so on.  I heard foreign people saying that Japanese products are reliable on the news.  I think it means that Japanese products might be popular so if Japan joins TPP, it will bring us profit.
