My father loves jokes.   I’ve grown up listening to all kinds of jokes.   It was very nice listening to jokes. As a child I would always look at the Sunday newspaper for the comics.   Then, it was frustrating not understanding some of them (especially the political ones).   Now I love looking at them.   Here’s my joke.   A panda comes into the bar.   He eats the food, shoots the waiter, and leaves. (If you look in the dictionary, a Panda “eats, shoots, and leaves”) HAHAHAHAHA.   Thank you for coming today.   The cookie was delicious.

Jokes are very enjoyable.   But sometimes I couldn’t understand punch lines immediately, so I want to understand them.   To understand jokes I should know histories, events and so on, I think.   “Joke is the way to make friends.” This is very nice.

Thanks for talking about jokes.   The contents he talks was very interesting.   The pictures he drew are so cute and construction (for example, an ass, “と” and Juppe) is also very interesting.   I know that jokes have many kinds, (Political, religious, dirty and so on) Thanks to his actions (moving of his hands), it is easier to understand the contents.   There are jokes in our daily lives.

Thank you very much for coming today.   I really had a good time.   I couldn’t answer or imagine the punch lines but I understood when I hear the last part of jokes.   I learned that jokes are important for studying foreign languages and understanding foreign culture.   I want to know more about jokes and make some jokes by myself someday.   Thank you.

I was very surprised when I listened to the end of the joke about a train traveling European countryside.   At first, I didn’t understand why the Japanese man threw the American man.   But I laughed very much when I understand that reason.   I think American jokes are different from Japanese jokes.   American jokes are not simple but it’s very funny.

It’s been always so hard for me to understand jokes so I was glad to hear that listening to lots of them makes us get the patterns.   I especially liked ethnic jokes since I have many friends all over the world and make me think of them even though the jokes aren’t even personal.   Now telling joke became one of my favorite things about English.   More people understand it when it’s in English.

Today’s lecture was so funny.   To understand jokes is sometimes to know problems and weak points.   Bob is a great speaker.   I love his talking, but he is not good at drawing pictures.   I have thought that jokes are not important.   However, thanks to this lecture, I’ve changed my idea.   I think that jokes are a new funny way to study about foreign countries because jokes tell us a lot.

I really enjoyed your lecture which was full of jokes! I could find the reason why I sometimes can’t understand American or Western jokes.   That is because jokes need background knowledge to understand.   I was impressed and felt that jokes reflect cultural difference.   I want to be a good English speaker who can tell people funny jokes!

Not only jokes, but his attractive and exciting talk was crazy xD.   He started his lecture without students’ consciousness.   Most students, including freshmen and me, surely felt nervous since this is the first of the series.   However, the aspect of jokes that have historical and religious context should be accepted much more.   Japanese tend to be sensitive about racial or ethnic jokes, but we should notice these are not only silly ones.

Today’s speech was really interesting.   I learned western humors have social or ethnic backgrounds.   Japanese comedians today try to make people laugh by making gag.   But Western people do by making irony.   I learned that’s the difference between Japanese joke and western joke.   It’s interesting to learn different cultures by listening to other countries , jokes!
