TITLE

Thank you for your wonderful lecture. I’m glad to know what an interpreter is and what we should take care of. Before I listened to your talking, I thought that the interpreter needs English skill more than Japanese skill, but it wasn’t correct. I could understand that interpreters need English skill which is as important as Japanese skill. And also you taught us what things we should pay attention to. So, I want to hesitate being afraid of making a wrong choice and to try to set my goal earlier. This spring, I’ll go to Mexico to study Spanish and I’m a little afraid of going to another country because I’ve never been to foreign countries. But I’d like to do my best and learn more things. Thank you for coming and talking to us. I want to hear your lecture again.

I am taking a class of interpretation, and I experienced a simultaneous interpretation. It was very difficult and my translation was terrible. While I was thinking how to translate, the speakers kept on speaking readily. I understood more practice was needed. As Ms. Mitsuzono said, to become an interpreter, it is important to become bilingual, but also to study a lot of kinds of fields, like finance, law and environment. Moreover, good memory and flexibility are important. I reconfirmed that how difficult it is to become an interpreter and I need efforts! I really respect Ms. Mitsuzono.

Thank you for your great speaking. I’m interested in interpreters, so it was an instructive lecture for me. I haven’t set my goal yet, but I’ll set my goal even if it’s a small goal. While interpreting, interpreters listen, visualize, then express in the other language, so I learned, to be an interpreter, I have to improve not only listening and speaking skills, but visualizing and memorizing skills.

I learned many things today. Especially I’m impressed by the phrase “having a goal.” I want to study and improve my English. I always think so, but it’s vague. I sometimes wonder how I should learn. If my goal is concrete, I’d do hard for it. By the way, I think to be professional interpreters is just “life time learning.” They meet a lot of people on the job so they must have a lot of knowledge. It’s hard but I think it’s work worth doing.

I want to be an interpreter in my future, but I was starting to give it up. However, today she gave me courage. I have known that she decided to aim to be an interpreter when she was 18 years old, and I am 19 years old now! Even if I start to try to be interpreter now, it may not be late. By the way, she said that it is important to listen carefully and listen to key words. Moreover, if we don’t understand, we can’t interpret. I thought I must study English harder.

Through this lecture I found that the job of an interpreter is so hard than I expected. This job is not only translation but also we have to know the backgrounds of the speakers. So I thought interpreters need a lot of knowledge and wide visual field. And I found that it cannot be too late to start something with the words. I could have confidence.

Thank you for your speaking! I was interested in the job which is an “interpreter,” so I was really happy and lucky because I had a chance to listen to your speaking. It is difficult to understand long sentences or conversation that someone speak, but I want to do so. After I listened to your speaking, I thought I’ll try to practice something of my hobby, for example, listening to music or watching movies!

First of all, I’m really encouraged by today’s lecture. Although I don’t want to be an interpreter, it was very interesting to know what kind of job it is, or what kind of path interpreters trod. And the message that “we have to set a goal” cheered me up. I thought I should set a goal and do something for my future.

I’m impressed with her pride of being professional. Nowadays, many people are bilingual and we are using to use translation tools. So interpreters are required to have much higher skills. It’s very tough. They have to keep studying. But actually, any other occupations also need such level. So we have to try hard to keep improving every time.

Setting a goal is difficult for me. When I was a high school student, I could not decide what I want to be. And still now I can’t say what I want to do actually. Anyway I must set my own goal which I interested in. I had better not be afraid of changing to other ways.

I used to be very interested in working as an interpreter in the future. But since I understood that you must have a lot of knowledge about both English and Japanese, I thought it was too big a goal to me. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that the pay is good and that it’s fun, but to be at a certain level, I bet you’ll need lots and lots of hard work… Maybe not as an interpreter, but I wish to get a job that uses English in the future. Thank you so much for coming today!!!

I used to be always wondering what the goal is, and what “setting a goal” is. After listening to her presentation, it seemed that one of my worries for my future just disappeared. Her talk was not only about her profession as an interpreter but also about setting a particular goal. I’ve decided my temporary goal but a clear goal during her presentation. I think a person with a goal is powerful and attractive. I hope I’ll be able to be like her, who has a strong power in each word she says!! I want to thank her for coming and also Brett and other teachers who decided to ask her to come.

I was really impressed that she have decided her goal as an interpreter when she was 18, because, at that point, she was younger than I am now. I don’t have any goals of my life yet, and I’m worried about it. I’m still worried about it, but I thought it’s not a bad idea to make a temporary goal when she told us that.

I had a dream to be an interpreter but I don’t have it now because I was deeply impressed with the difficulty of interpretation. Watching an interpreter on TV makes me have the dream and today’s lecture did too. I have respect for interpreters because I think they made great efforts and have a lot of knowledge and have a perfect command of more than two languages.

Before listening to interpreters I thought the important skill was how to listen to and speak the language well but now after getting the occasions to see some interpreters, I changed my mind; to be an interpreter we need special knowledge because the necessity of interpreters occurs to the occasion which needs them. The other impressive thing is her pathway to be an interpreter. After the university, she didn’t try to become one. Firstly she started to work at a bank to get financial knowledge that helps her as an interpreter. It’s really a long way for me.
