TITLE

I was happy to listen to the story of experience of getting a job in a global company. It is because I’m interested in jobs which use English or my major, Chinese. Listening to today’s presentation, I realized the importance of other skills than English ability again. In our university, there are many career seminars, so I positively use these seminars and put these skills in my job hunting!

She quit her job 2 times to make her dream come true, I think she has courage that I don’t have. Quit a job is a big decision in one’s life. I learned PC skill and communication skill are important for jobs. But both are my week points. I have to continue study to get a suitable job for me. I worry about my job hunting but I learn I have to be affirmative.

Today, I spent precious time because I could listen to the presentation of a Japanese guest speaker for the first time in this lecture. First of all, she also said that one of the best way of studying English is shadowing. Last presentator said so, too, and I really often hear that shadowing is good, so I’m curtain that it is really good. And, she said “Of course, when you work using English, English skills are very important, but the most important thing is hospitality or communication skill.” I really agree on that. Exactly, even if we are in the case where we communicate with foreigners, before they are “foreigners”, they are “humans”. So I think it important that we show our respect to people we talk with, and we think by standing other people’s point every time.

So interesting to hear an English lecture from a Japanese. I’ve never really seen any people who work at a foreign company and using English for business. In my future I would love to work at a foreign company. However, since I haven’t had any opportunities to hear that kind of talk, my motivation was gradually going down and down. But today I really got the motivation toward getting my future career in overseas countries!! I would like to thank her for giving me the inspiration. As a first step for my dream, I’m going to study business English, little by little from now on!!

TITLE : Working at global company

Today’s seminar is about working at a global company. I think working in a foreign country is difficult and bitter, because it has a different culture and language. So I don’t think of going abroad. I think she is amazing. I know her experience today. I think I have to study English, and learn about hospitality. It is important for every company.

I think she is an ideal person for me who can speak English and communicate with foreigners frequently. I want to use English at work in the future like her, so I try to improve my English ability. Also, she said communication ability is most important, so I want to talk with foreigners more often.

I was surprised to hear her pathway to her current job. She went to University of Toronto and works at a global company. I think she has experienced a lot of things and tried to improve her skill of work. I’m impressed with her words “I have to improve my English conversation skill!!” I learned it was very important to keep on having a desire to improve oneself for everything.

I think it’s wonderful to get a good job by hard effort. I’m sorry to say this but I don’t have a good image of changing jobs so many times. I wonder if Ms. Sassa had any hesitation to quit jobs for her ideal. Even if she said that she quitted the jobs for her career, some people might think there are any problems on her personality or something else, I wonder. If I were her, I think I cannot take risks like her.

Today’s presentation had an influence on me to think more about my career. I thought that I have to search or listen to a working adult to consider my future’s job. I respect Kumimo Sassa so much because she is Japanese, same as us, although she is energetic in many ways. I think I would like to be like her.

I am now kind of sad because I couldn’t ask a question today, it was first time that I didn’t ask anything. Anyway, I’m so curious about in working at a foreign company, since my father worked in the U.S. for 4 years. I’m very encouraged to keep doing many experiences, as the guest said. But I’m sometimes awkward to give up what I do now to start new things. But she made me kind of brave enough to seek for new things.

I didn’t have time to ask her a question (again). I was thinking that learning Japanese culture and history is not directly related to becoming an interpreter. What kind of benefit did they give her? (I’ll raise my hand earlier next time.) I’m very proud of her to quit her job and found another one. Japanese people are very poor at a making big decision like that. I’ll try to be brave to decide what I want to do from now. Thank you.

Transition system from temp staff to a regular employee has been popular and helpful since it is introduced nearly seven years ago. The company I once worked for has adopted this system. Not only language barrier but cultural difference is a problem to get over.

It was very interesting to hear about someone elses career path & experience. It made me think of some general things such as the importance of academics and work experiences. I think academics is important, but I am curious how much it will matter in the real world, or after university/college,. They might depend on the company, career path and country. For example, in Japan certificates/qualifications matter, but in the US, some jobs requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree. In my opinion, it’s difficult to know what career to choose. Maybe it is easier for some people but not for me. I wonder if my skills right now and experiences in part-time jobs, for example, will influence the career I’ll have in the future.

I want to work in a global corporation, so her speech is very helpful. I decide to study business English and have an opportunity to speak English. I work at a hotel now. Hospitality is also important there. She said “How do I fell if the customer is me.” I also think so.
