TITLE

The presidential election system was one of the most difficult subjects for me to understand when I went to the US two years ago and took a class to study the systems of American government, so this was really a good opportunity to remember how it works once more. I learned that Obama was really good at using new kinds of social medias, like Facebook and Twitter to win the election. I think it was a pretty new idea that he used these social medias to let people know what he thinks and what he would do if he won the election. People want to know what the person who might become their leader think about them (citizens) and the country. I believe this was really a good way to approach the citizens, but I also think that a lot of people who want to be a new president will use the same way to approach! Facebook and Twitter are not new anymore, so I'm looking forward to see what kind of new approach the new presidents use to win the elections.

TITLE : Run-up to the 2012 United States Presidential Election

We always hear about presidential election and we also vote every year. But we are always disappointed when we realize many presidents do corruption or they leave responsibility without feeling any regrets etc… I think the key to resolve these problems is that we must erase one bad habit. It is only who has money will be able to be president. I am not sure, but if we can do this, the next president will be a good president and the election become more disciplined and clear.

I was surprised that presidential election of the United States takes a lot of time and money. In the United States, people are given a right of elections at eighteen, while we are given at twenty. We need to join elections when we are younger to make a strongly motivated attitude. Education of election for young people is important and this is told by parents.

TITLE : Run-Up to the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election

There were two surprising things in his presentation. One is that both the political parties in the USA have their own symbol characters! According to his speech, the Democratic Party's symbol is “donkey” and the Republican Party's one is “elephant.” I thought that it's interesting if there was such a system in Japan, too. The other is that there are only 6 presidents in his life! In Japan, especially for the last several years, prime ministers changed so many times and so quickly! I regretted a little that I couldn't ask him about such kind of Japan's situation.

Today's lecture was a little difficult for me, but I realized American election systems. Most American people are interested in presidential election and participate in vote. In contrast, many people have a passionate concern but they don't vote in Japan. To form a better country, we should participate in elections actively.

TITLE: Run-up to the 2012 United States Presidential Elections

American Politics is dominated by Two Party - the Democratic Party and Republican Party over 150 years. American Presidents have been chosen from these Two Parties. There are mainly two Presidential Elections. One is the Primary Election, It lasts over 6months and chooses a representing person of the Party. Another is the General Election which is the election choosing the President in the United States. Every time I watched the situation of America elections on TV. I feel a kind of “festival.” The debate contents of candidates are really important for instance, about abortion, gun control, economical strategy, debt problems, foreign policy issues…etc. The importance of social media is getting really strong. I was really interested in the candidate Cain, because he has a career running a pizza chain store, so he might have a strong sense of economy. The America 2012 election is strongly related with Japan. So we should pay attention to it.

Today's influences of the media are really big, so using them efficiently is a key to success in many fields. Though politicians give speeches around stations or in big cities, people who hear or see them are limited, so they get information from media, especially on TV. It is a little scary that the politician's personality or other things are determined only by impressions on TV, but today is such a generation so they have to adopt to it.

Today I took Mr. Wheeler's lecture. He told us a lot about election in America. I don't know it at all, but he explained it lucidly. So I became interested in elections in America. Then I have a question. How high is the voting rate? Are the American people interested in voting? Please tell me. He speaks a little too fast. So I can't understand all of his speaking. I think I try to improve my English.

It was very interesting to know about the American elections. I think the huge scale of elections in the USA produces the “red” presidents who lead the most influential country in the world. The interesting picture I found in the brochure was 2 women who are texting to encourage young people to go to elections. I think this approach is very useful because young people might think that politics and elections are closer and more realistic to them.

I learned more about the American elections today. I think the systems of American election are so complex partly because there are several stages in the American presidential election. But such complex systems may enable American people's opinions to refrect on the politics. America is one of the countries which has an influence on the world, so its presidential election is always in the world spotlight. I also wonder who will be the next president. Thank you for giving this lecture to us.

In Japan, The voting percentage is very low, especially among the young generation. That is a serious problem. Because, a nation has to make a government. We know Japan is a democracy. But we don't make a democracy.
