TITLE: Positive Thinking

In his lecture, I learned the importance of progress step by step and thinking not anything I cannot but I can. Building a house is very hard and difficult, but cutting wood and painting are easy work. So we should think positive and make simple objectives. Then, someday we can achieve our goal.

TITLE: Nick's House

His house is very nice as of the price and design. The tiles on the wall are beautiful and cheap in particular. Photos of the rooms in which everything was scattered by the earthquake moved me. It is surprising for me that they changed to a beautiful house. It shows me strength. I felt that he enjoyed his life. I learned that “I can do it!”

Today's presentation topic is very interesting and different. I'm so impressed of Nick's way to build his dream house. He didn't give up easily and he tried many ways to get something better and even cheaper. He even studied the basic of architecture and took a license only to make a septic tank. I really like his house design, not only because it's gorgeous but also because he built every inch of it by his own sweat. I agree with what he said, we have to try not to give up before starting, and do not see something that so far away, just see what is in front of you and try to get closer even just one step. Nicholas Bufton really inspired me to try everything I can do to be better.

I learned from this lecture that there are several ways to make dream come true. Even if it seems difficult to succeed at first, by changing ideas and views, it can be easy. However, for that purpose, I think it is necessary to keep searching and making effort. Mr. Bufton amazed me because he built a house by himself and his wife!! I think one of the important things to achieve the purpose is keep trying step by step.

When I heard the tale of monks, I thought it was important to look at the near-by rock or the stone. I tend to look at the top of the mountain. For example, I want to become to speak English fluently, I want to be able to watch the English movie without subtitles. I only set up ideals, but I never thought what I should do to realize my ideals. I only looked at the top of mountain. But I should try to bring reality closer to my ideals by looking at the near place and going step by step.

TITLE: Nick's House

His speech is very interesting for me, although I don't have a plan to construct my house yet! In fact my grandfather has done jobs of carpenter for years. So I have watched the process many times. I remembered it from today's lecture. Constructing building takes a long time for anybody. But if you continue doing it step by step, finally you can make it. This idea match the other things in our life, I think. So, I want to go ahead with what I engage in even if the step is very slow. Thank you very much.

TITLE: My GOAL

When I entered the university, I was full of energy to strive toward my dream. Still, as my aim came near me, I noticed it's too big and great for me. Then I gave it up, I've lost my target. But, Today Nick told me that all we have to do is to make a step by step. Don't care about a big goal. Any great ones need little steps, I learned. It's true and natural, everybody, including me, tends to think a big goal needs a big step. I was couraged by this lecture. Finally, I love cooking and talking. Today, I decide I make my husband to construct a big and wide kitchen.

Thank you for giving this interesting lecture to us. I felt that you had thought over your new house. Especially I think arranging the bathroom upstairs is a very good idea. I was surprised at how high the price to build the house was and how challenging the building of your house by yourself was. But as a result of much hard work, your house is very beautiful!! I want to see it with my own eyes! Through your lecture, I learned that we should accomplish our challenges little by little and that it is important not to give up our dreams.

If I want a house but don't have enough money, all I will do is find the most reasonable architect, and I think most people do so. However, Nick designed his own house, obtained the necessary qualifications, and constructed it!! I never imagined we could build a house by ourselves. Now I am planning to study abroad but I fully rely on an agent so I will do as much as I can from today! If I do so, I can cut the cost of commission and use that money for studying abroad.

Thank you very much for the lecture today, Mr. Nick Bufton. After listening to your lecture today I realized that someday I will marry, have some children and also must build the house. I decided today I will build my house by my own hand without hiring workers or designers. I know it isn't easy, but as you said I will try, try and try.

Today's speaker was Nick Bafton, originally from England. He and his wife lived in a very small house for fifteen years, with no hot water to shave or wash the dishes. His wife wanted to buy their own house, but there was a problem: they had no money. So they searched for cheaper ways to built a house and discovered that a house without 100㎡ doesn't need an architect's license. He drew his house plans, bought by himself the materials (from the USA), and could build his house very cheaply. The bathroom is on the 2nd floor because it's more convenient to the people who live in the house. They painted it and did many things by themselves (he and his wife). I was surprised!!! But on March 11th, everything (except his house) fell down and his wife was injured in the leg by a mirror which broke. The house is very beautiful, and I'm very impressed. As we say in Japanese, “Otsukaresama deshita!!!”.

Today's lecture is very interesting. I hadn't been interested in architecture and I didn't know about this field so I was absorbed in your presentation! NICK's House is very nice and it seems it was built by professional carpenters. I like NICK's HOUSE very much!! I heard that people living in Budapest build their houses by themselves. I was very surprised. In Japan, in general, people don't build their own house themselves but if I have the chance I want to try to build something by myself. I don't have any ability to make things so I have to challenge easier ones. In the end, please take care of yourself, your family and your house.

I am very happy to be here and listen to Nick's wonderful presentation today. Many people tell us to try what we want to do hard, but I think Nick is one of the best and most wonderful people that I got motivated by and made me think about what I really want to do and my future again. I think Nick has a very interesting way of thinking, so that things can get much better and developed further. All he did was really impressive and I enjoyed seeing all of the pictures. I am not sure if I can do something as wonderful as making a house myself, but I will find something big and do as much as I can.

I have seen a procedure for building a house. Actually, my house was fully remodeled when I was 12 years old. My father is a carpenter, so he built our house. I remember that my family enjoyed the procedure, and I really liked to see the house which was under construction, and to imagine the completion, because the house was approaching the completion day by day. A little change made me happy. I think aiming is good. If I try to do something, I want to believe that things approach a goal step by step.

Thank you for your wonderful speech. It's so interesting to build houses. There are many ideas. They have many good ways to live. His speech's contents were interesting, but his way of speaking is very interesting for me and I was able to come into his world. I've taken this seminar for some weeks. I can get many talks on the way to study English… etc… However, I can get the most thing from the chances to listen to English speaking, I think.
